New High Power UV LED Curing System

ProPhotonix has recently announced the latest addition to its range of UV LED curing systems with the launch of COBRA Cure™ FX3. With this addition, the COBRA Cure FX series is now offered with intensities up to 16 W/cm2. This post details the key features of the COBRA Cure FX3 and discusses the main benefits of UV LED systems over traditional technologies.

COBRA Cure™ FX3 Features

With intensity up to 16 W/cm² or energy density of up to 42 J/cm² from an air cooled system the new COBRA Cure™ FX3 offers:

  • Chip-On-Board LED Technology for high intensity and excellent uniformity
  • 365nm, 385nm, 395nm, 405nm laser and multi-wavelength options
  • Lifetime of 20,000 hours
  • Instant on/off intensity control
  • “Cold cure” – ideal for heat sensitive substrates

The COBRA Cure™ FX3 has a stackable design and is available in modules of 75mm up to 600mm. This high power UV LED curing system offers edge to edge illumination. When the system is scaled up, there will be no drop in intensity at the edges of the individual modules.

Due to the ability to monitor and drive each LED segment, the COBRA Cure™ FX3 offers excellent intensity control, ensuring that uniformity and intensity are maintained across varying conditions and over the lifetime of the lamp. This, along with the on/ off intensity control, ensures consistent control of the system.

Benefits of UV LED curing systems

UV LED curing systems offer many advantages over traditional mercury vapor lamps. Moving to an LED solution can mean increased productivity and improved system performance. LED curing is a reliable method of generating higher intensities of UV, allowing for faster production speeds. UV LEDs are the ideal solution when using heat sensitive substrates as with its cold cure, heat shrinkage issues are eliminated. LED systems can also reduce operating and overhead costs, as they do not require special ventilation systems since they do not release ozone.
